Planning, Executing The Teleco Cup

The Teleco Cup may have confirmed dates but which teams will participate is still up in the air.

The tournament will happen September 10-12 and the goal is to expand the event to not only include the Kam River Fighting Walleye but also squads from both the Northern Ontario and Manitoba Junior Hockey Leagues.

Fighting Walleye General Manager and Head of Player Development Kevin McCallum says talks are ongoing to have the Heart Lumberjacks and Elliot Lake Red Wings in the tournament.

“I’m waiting on a Manitoba team that wants to come, however that’s contingent on their provincial restrictions and whether they’re allowed to travel yet,” added McCallum. “We have a waiting list that includes three teams from both the Northern and Superior league as well as another Manitoba team.”

Manitoba is in the Restricted Response Level, which means fully vaccinated individuals can travel without being required to self-isolate for 14 days upon return. The isolation remains in place for those who have one or no vaccine doses.

Ontario is into Step 2 of their reopening plan, however Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore strongly advises that out of province travel should only happen if it’s essential and you should self-isolate for 14 days when arriving or returning.

The inaugural event in November and December 2020 saw the Thunder Bay North Stars win the eight game series with five victories.
