City Council will vote on whether to invest in expanding multi-use trails in Thunder Bay.
The city’s Director of Engineering and Operations, Kayla Dixon, will present to council Monday a long-term plan for work on the waterfront trail, which will include awarding the project to Pete’s Backhoe Service Limited.
“In one to five years, we’re looking at kind of extending the trail south of the existing Prince Arthur’s Landing area, and doing some planning and design for the remaining part of the trail,” Dixon explained, when talking about the short term plan.
The work would start in 2022, and Dixon said it would not prevent the public from using the trail.
“So the sections of trail we would be looking at, in the short term, are additions to the trail,” Dixon mentione. “They wouldn’t impact existing sections of the trail, but what we would look to do is extend from the end of the Waterfront Marina.”
Pete’s Backhoe Service Limited submitted the lowest revised tender in the amount of $775,138.77.
The motion Monday also indicates that the construction would also use $1.6 million from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – COVID Resilience fund.
