Confederation College held a virtual convocation, though two lucky students got the in-person experience.
Luisa Di Biagio, who received the SUCCI-OASA Student Leadership Award along with her diploma Friday, suggested her final year during the pandemic was unique.
“It’s a little bittersweet,” admitted Di Biagio. “I was fortunate to have a great group of classmates, also my coordinators went above and beyond. They actually went out of their way to make sure we didn’t struggle during the pandemic, I felt supported.”
Di Biagio wishes all her classmates could also have graduated in person this year. She noted if the college holds an in-person ceremony next year for 2021 grads, she will definitely be there.
Tyrell Monias received his diploma Aboriginal Community Advocacy, and said it’s a privilege to be able to do that in-person.
The college gave out diplomas and certificates to over 2,100 students from the class of 2021, and is recognizing over 1,800 grads from 2020.
President Kathleen Lynch says they hope to return to in-person ceremonies next year, and anyone from the classes of 2020 and 2021 is welcome to attend and walk across the stage.
