High-speed internet coming to comes north of Thunder Bay.
A federal investment of nearly $3.2 million for Tbaytel will help connect the 689 homes in Lappe and Toimela.
MP Patty Hajdu explains the importance of the investment.
“Whether its to connect to school, to business, to work, to healthcare, high-speed internet is an essential tool for our increasingly digital and online world,” explained Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu. “This investment is going to help ensure that rural communities here in Northwestern Ontario aren’t limited to accessing the services they need because of a lack of broadband connectivity.”
President and CEO of Tbaytel, Dan Topatigh, explained this is a huge benefit for Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas.
“As a locally owned company Tbaytel has spent more than a century connecting our region to the rest of the world,” remarked Topatigh. “As and organization we have spent the last five years bringing state of the art Fiber, the fastest broadband connectivity available today, to homes and businesses to our serving territory. In fact by the end of the year, 96 per cent of the city of Thunder Bay will have access to this technology.”
