Community input will help shape future police services in Thunder Bay.
Chair Kristen Oliver of the Police Services Board has opened its Community Planning Survey that will be available until June 25.
“It’s very broad in the questions in terms of the information we’re looking for because we do recognize that community policing means something different to everyone,” said Oliver. “So, you know you have people that are interacting with police on a regular basis for a variety of reasons, and then you have people that have very little interaction with police but still at the same time have great concerns about some of the things they’re seeing and hearing in the community.”
Oliver goes on to explain systemic issues will also be addressed within the survey, that could affect a variety of groups within Thunder Bay.
“We also know we have racism in this community, and we’re trying to work with our community partners on how we address some of those issues,” maintained Oliver. “Dealing with systemic racism, there are questions sort of open ended as to how people can provide some feedback on that, again to help us better form our policies.”
Also included in the survey will be questions about public perceptions about the new police headquarters.
