Dr. Janet DeMille has some concerns about Ontario’s staged re-opening plan.
The Medical Officer of Health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit gives some credit for lifting the ban on outdoor recreation, but is troubled by a province-wide approach rather than a regional one.

“Here we are, with some of the lowest rates of COVID-19 in the province, and a very reasonable vaccination rate, and one that is continuing to go up, and it does feel like we’re still being held back a little bit in terms of our re-opening,” DeMille pointed out.
Dr. DeMille was also let down when it didn’t confirm if students will be able to return to in-person learning.
“What we’re experiencing right now can have, you know, long-lasting consequences that are gonna be challenging to recover from,” added DeMille. “I would just strongly advocate to the government to re-open the schools, especially in this area.”
As of Saturday the Thunder Bay District Health Unit had 25 active cases.
