The Goal: Net Zero Emissions By 2050

Looking towards the future of Thunder Bay and combating Climate Change through the Net Zero Strategy.

Your feedback is wanted on the initiative, which will be back before council on Monday June 7.

“How are the citizens of Thunder Bay going to take their responsibilities for the next 20 to 25 years in terms of dealing with Climate Change?” asks EarthCare Advisory Committee Chair Andrew Foulds, when discussing the plan.

Meanwhile Fridays for Future Thunder Bay organizer Keira Essex calls the plan ambitious.

“It really shows how sustainable Thunder Bay can be,” Essex stated. “It also shows that governments can be accountable to the climate emergency and that they can have these more ambitious goals and deadlines.”

Thunder Bay’s Sustainability Coordinator Summer Stevenson feels this is something that everyone needs to get on board with.

“It provides a whole host of actions that we would have to undertake in order to respond to the climate emergency and meet net zero emissions by 2050,” Stevenson said.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
