Boaters Itching For Restrictions To Ease

Boats are starting to show up in the Marina, but do not expect to see many out cruising on the lake.

Thunder Bay’s Manager of Parks Cory Halvorsen tells us even though roughly 90% of the dock spaces are booked, the province’s COVID-19 restrictions are limiting what boat owners can do.

“Put it into its slip, and perform any maintenance activities that are needed to get it ready for the season, but that’s essentially the limit of what the marina can be used for,” says Halvorsen.

The Parks manager adds you have to do preparations without anyone over socially.

“Can’t be socializing or having gatherings on your boat, either. The province strictly allows you to launch your boat, because some people need to get it out of storage, so it’s ready to go as soon as the restrictions change,” he says.

He adds as May rolled around last year, there weren’t as many people signed up to launch, but by June they did get up to about 90%.
