Waterwheel To Replace Bucket At Park

A new feature is set to replace the water bucket at the North End splash pad in June.

Manager of Parks Cory Halvorsen tells us it’ll be a wheel, with the plan for less water to fall on kids than what the bucket did.

“It’s similar in shape like to a ferris wheel. The water essentially makes the wheel turn, the water will still fall, more of a steady type flow,” says Halvorsen.

The Parks manager estimates the cost to be about $10,000.

He also hopes it’ll work for everyone.

The bucket dropped a large amount of water on the kids, in intervals, which resulted in plenty of noise and laughter. People living nearby brought concerns about noise to the city. “Inevitably, every five or ten minutes, it would result in a group of kids anticipating it, and then noticeably louder reaction. If you’ve ever been to an indoor waterpark.”

The city adds it dealt with noise concerns ever since the bucket was put up in 2017.
