Province Hires More Correctional Officers

The provincial government is hiring 89 new correctional officers, though none will be coming to Ontario’s northwest.

No correctional officers are being sent to Thunder Bay, the closest areas receiving support being North Bay and Sudbury.

New officers hired are expected to join the frontline and reinforce public safety, according to the province.

Training for the new correctional officers focused on scenario-based learning, as well as de-escalation and communication skills.

The move comes as part of Ontario’s plan to invest $500,000,000 over the course of the next five years, with the intention of improving correctional services.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
