Active Case Count Drops To 41

The active case count within the Thunder Bay District Health Unit continues to fall.

Health officials Friday report there are 41 active cases with two new cases, both obtained through someone else who had COVID-19.

There are another six cases that are deemed as resolved.

Regionally, the first case of the Brazil variant of COVID-19 has been found in a resolved case in the Dryden area.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says they haven’t seen any further spread from the Brazilian variant case.

At the same time, the health unit confirms there’s active UK variant cases in Kenora, Fort Frances and Atikokan.

Hoon stresses other variant cases may be in other communities as well.

Variants of concern are known to spread easier, faster and are more likely to cause hospitalization or even death than the non-variant form of COVID-19

Provincially, there are 3,166 new cases.
