Health Unit Investigating COVID Outbreak At Mine

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Musselwhite mine, about 480kms north of Thunder Bay.

The local health unit tells us one person has tested positive, and many others are waiting confirmation of preliminary positive results, which came from rapid testing.

Everyone who had close contact with those identified are in isolation.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit adds it is working with mine management and Newmont Corporation to assess potential risk to others, and anyone outside the mine.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
