Paramedics Say ‘Yes’ To New Contract

Paramedics who work for Superior North EMS are just one step away from having labour peace with the City of Thunder Bay.

Unifor Local 39-11 head Rob Moquin tells us his 108 members have voted to accept a new contract by 97.5 percent..

“It tells me that our membership has a lot of faith in the bargaining committee and that we brought forth a good contract…that is palatable on both sides,” explains Moquin.

He notes it is a four-year contract that is retroactive to April of last year meaning there will not be any contract dispute for another three years.

The paramedics had threatened strike action on Sunday and it looked as if there would be a walkout after talks with the city on Friday failed to result in a deal.

However, on Saturday Moquin says his bargaining committee was called back to the table which resulted in the tentative agreement being reached.

Details of the contract will not be released until city councillors vote on it at their meeting Monday evening.
