While COVID-19 variants are not a major concern in Thunder Bay now, the district’s Medical Officer of Health has a warning.
Dr. Janet DeMille urges you not to count them out yet.
“Even though we don’t have many of those (variants) here at the present time there’s very much a risk that we will see more in the coming weeks and that will cause our case number to go up,” cautions DeMille.
The medical official explains the threat of these variants of concern should be enough for us to take preventative measures to avoid the virus.
Meantime, DeMille is urging you not to be discouraged by daily COVID-19 numbers.
She points out we have seen our case count slow somewhat to about 110 new cases over the last seven days.
However, DeMille indicates we need our seven-day average to get to around 40 before we can loosen any lockdown restrictions.
