Paramedics who work with Superior North EMS have reportedly voted to go on strike.
Unifor spokesperson Rob Moquin tells us for now the lines of communication between the union and the City of Thunder Bay are open.
“We are still at the table today and we have one date scheduled for tomorrow. We are going to ask the employer to continue scheduling dates so we can get through the contract,” explains Moquin.
If there is a strike by the 108 paramedics, it could happen as soon as early next month.
The city has responded by saying in the event of a walkout essential services by paramedics will be maintained.
“We don’t bargain in the media,” said City Manager Norm Gale, “We greatly appreciate the skill, diligence, and hard work of the City’s paramedics at all times but especially during this unprecedented time.”
