It’s that time of the year when the ice at the Port of Thunder Bay is to be broken.
Provincial police tell us the Canadian Coast Guard, in conjunction with the US Coast Guard cutter “Alder”, have arranged for it to be here on or around this coming Tuesday, to break the ice so commercial ships can pass through the area safely.
However, due to operational changes, or weather conditions, Tuesday’s target date could easily change.
The coast guard is cautioning anyone who is on the ice to exercise caution during this time, avoid the shipping lanes, or simply not go out.
