The province confirms Thunder Bay is in line to receive more than $2.4 million to help protect people in homeless shelters from recent outbreaks.
The funds are part of $255 million funding announcement Wednesday to assist municipalities, social service providers and Indigenous communities and organizations in the fight against coronavirus.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark says the money can be used for a variety of things including:
- Motel and hotel spaces to support physical distancing of shelter residents
- Hiring more shelter staff
- Purchasing personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies
- Adding to rent and utility banks to help prevent more people from becoming homeless
