Possible Variant Case In District

A more contagious COVID-19 variant may be in the Thunder Bay District.

The Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille explains they are not certain if this case its a variant of concern yet.

“Out of 217 (cases) that have been recently screened, one is showing that it did detect the mutation, and that is going off for further testing to see if it is one of those variants of concern,” she says.

Dr. DeMille says while it’s encouraging there’s only one potential variant case, it’s concerning that it may be here at all.

A variant case was confirmed in Dryden last Friday.
