TBDHU Tightens Self-Isolation Rules

The rules around self-isolation have gotten stricter under a new order from the Health Unit.

Starting immediately, the Health Unit is requiring anyone who has new COVID-19 symptoms to isolate, whether or not they are waiting for a test result.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says they need to make sure everyone is following public health rules.

“While most individuals are compliant with the direction to isolate, we need everyone to do so, especially at this time of rising case numbers. Unfortunately, there are some people who aren’t following public health direction,” Dr. DeMille points out. “To date, we have taken an approach of progressive enforcement. This Class Order is an additional tool that will help with that.”

The order also applies to anyone who had close contact with a confirmed or probable case, even if you don’t have symptoms.

Anyone with a positive or probable positive test result is still required to isolate.

You’ll also have to stay home if you’re a parent or caregiver for someone under 16 who needs to isolate.

Officials add that not complying with the order can result in a fine ranging from $880 to $5,000.

The rules will be in effect until the Health Unit determines it’s no longer necessary.
