COVID Spread Shows Need For New Jail: Hajdu

There are concerns from Canada’s health minister about the spread of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District.

The latest numbers from the health unit show 40 new coronavirus cases Friday with the active case count in the region approaching 200.

Patty Hajdu indicates health officials have told her the outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail is “the nexus for the outbreak” and it shows why a new jail is desperately needed.

“We can see now why it’s not just about…social justice and human dignity it’s actually about the safety of the people living in that facility and the people working in that facility and by extension our entire community,” says Hajdu.

The health minister points out when you have disease circulating among vulnerable populations it threatens the health of everyone.
