The waiting game is over for the Lakehead Junior Hockey League.
President Josh Gribben confirms in an email to Acadia Broadcasting that the remainder of the 2020-2021 campaign is scrapped as the Thunder Bay District Health Unit remains in the Red Control designation in the COVID-19 response framework.
The Junior ‘B’ circuit is hopeful that they can start up a new season in the Fall.
The SIJHL is comfortable waiting to resume the season.
Commissioner Darrin Nicholas says the current situation is making it more difficult to envision a resumption of the campaign, but there’s no rush to make a final call. The league needs the colour to be orange or lower to look at re-launching.
Nicholas sympathizes with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, who decided to pull the plug on the remainder of their season back on February 12th. The MJHL was a first Junior ‘A’ League in the country to start play back in October.
