Gary’s Towing is behind about 10-15 calls for stubborn vehicles refusing to start in this cold weather.
Owner David Allen tells us, however, that is quite low, considering the pandemic has shut Thunder Bay down and people are not traveling as much. “When the city is going at full tilt, we’ve had it at two to three days when we’re behind on calls. So, for us being only this far behind, this early in the day, is the only good part of this whole thing.”
He adds the majority of vehicles he’s seen do have block heaters.
“People don’t have access to plug it in, or it’s been so cold the breakers have been tripped. Or, they haven’t driven the vehicles because of the lockdown, so people haven’t gone anywhere on the weekend. So, the vehicle is sitting a lot longer than they normally would,” says Allen.
The tow truck owner adds calls into the outlying areas of the city add to the delays.
