Grain Elevator Group Recognized

A local volunteer group is getting a provincial award for their work preserving the history of Thunder Bay’s grain industry.

The Friends of Grain Elevators say they’re honoured to have received the Ontario Historical Society’s 2019 President’s Award in December.

The group focuses on recovering the history of Thunder Bay’s grain elevators and has recorded over 200 interviews with those involved in the grain trade.

The awards are given out in recognition of “an outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Ontario’s history.”
