January 2021 will certainly be remembered for its comparable warmth and lack of snow.
Environment Canada’s Gerald Chang tells us the temperature averaged around 6-degrees warmer at -9.2C, while the typical Thunder Bay snowfall did not show up. “If we look at the snow that fell, we ended the month with 16cms, but usually at the end of the month it should be around 34.”
The Environment Canada meteorologist adds this happens periodically.
“I think it happens once in a while, and not just Thunder Bay. It was pretty much right across Canada, east of the Rockies,” says Chang.
He adds Thunder Bay’s winter will pick up again this month, with colder air coming, and plenty of snow this week.
