City Discusses Protecting Homeless And Inmates

Thunder Bay’s homeless and vulnerable are the focus of the city’s Municipal Emergency Control Group.

Mayor Bill Mauro stated in a news release the group met Sunday to go over critical planning, as well as further handling of COVID-19 outbreaks at the District jail and Correctional centre.

He adds planning is critical, including for the isolation centre, where anyone homeless, who is at risk of COVID-19, can find shelter with 24 hour support from health care workers.

We have reached out to the city for further comment.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
