The COVID-19 vaccine will remain a precious commodity in the Thunder Bay area for several weeks.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille explains our supply will remain tight for the foreseeable future.
“We are definitely having a limited supply of the vaccine until mid-February. What happens after that we don’t really know much,” explains DeMille. ” So It’s a bit discouraging that it’s not really coming in our direction very quickly and that we don’t really have much of a line of sight right now in terms of what’s going to happen several weeks from now.”
The health official adds “I think people provincially maybe like to be optimistic there will be an increase in supply but that has not been clearly communicated at this time.”
DeMille is however thankful that residents of long-term care homes have been able to get protection from the vaccine.
All those residents in the district are scheduled to be inoculated by February 5th.
