Kakabeka Falls Looking For Hockeyville Crown

The decision on whether Kakabeka Falls has enough nominations to advance in the annual Kraft Hockeyville competition is just days away.

The community hopes to be in the running for the grand prize of $250,000 to upgrades and improvements to the winning arena as well as playing host to a future NHL game.

Abby Dzuba, the Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator for the Kam River Fighting Walleye, is hoping to learn from a previous Thunder Bay bid.

“The big barrier that they had was that they didn’t have the whole community really supporting the bid, and I think that’s what we really need from Oliver Paipoonge Kakabeka Falls and Thunder Bay, it’s a group effort,” indicates Dzuba.

Should the grand prize be awarded to the NorWest Arena, Dzuba says the NHL games would be played inside the Fort William Gardens.

The top four communities will be announced on March 20th. Those locales will engage in another voting process that’ll start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday April 9th and conclude at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday April 10th. The winner will be announced that night.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
