‘We’re Dying Here’: Bombardier Union President

Prospects look grim for the Bombardier plant in Thunder Bay.

Union spokesperson Dominic Pasqualino tells us if they do not get any new contracts soon there will not be any work by the end of this year.

He agrees the plant may have to shut down.

“We’re dying here we need work. I have a lot of my members laid off now. A lot of them have quit, a lot of them have taken other jobs,” explains Pasqualino.

The Unifor official adds workers are hoping the federal and provincial governments kick in money towards major contracts for Toronto streetcars and subway cars.

However, he says only the City of Toronto has made the financial commitment.

Unifor President Jerry Dias raised the red flag this week in an opinion piece in the Toronto Star entitled, “Without leadership Bombardier rail car plant in Thunder Bay risks closure.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
