$1.24M For City’s COVID-19 Costs

There’s some extra cash to help the city deal with extra costs from the pandemic in the new year.

City Treasurer Linda Evans explains they got $1.2-million in federal and provincial funding to help offset the estimated $9-million in expected costs for 2021.

That, along with the leftover Safe Restart funding from this summer, will take care of about half of those expenses.

Evans explains City Council will have to decide before the budget whether to approve some cost-cutting measures, or take the remaining funds out of the Stabilisation Reserve Fund.

Council committed to not letting the COVID-19 pressures affect the 2021 tax levy.

On top of this latest investment, Evans says they are also hoping for more transit funding in the next few weeks.
