Brayden Bushby Sentencing Hearing

Today is the chance for those who want to speak about the loss of 34-year-old Barbara Kentner.

The sentencing hearing gets underway at 10:00 a.m. as 22-year-old Brayden Bushby was found guilty of manslaughter in the 2017 death of Kentner.

Judge Helen Pierce, in her December decision, indicated the actions of Bushby on that January morning were a contributing cause of Kentner’s death, were objectively dangerous, and that injury to Kentner was foreseeable.

Defence Lawyer George Joseph, talking to reporters after the decision, says today is not just about the lawyers.

“What is going to be listened to, and rightfully so, are the victim impact statements of the Kentner family. They should have their say as to how this crime as affected them. I suspect that’ll be lengthy and emotional,” says Joseph.

Brayden Bushby has been out on bail conditions since the conclusion of the trial.
