A checkpoint to pass through on Fort William First Nation with rising COVID-19 numbers nationally.
Chief Peter Collins tells us starting Wednesday, you will be screened if you want to go into the main part of town by the government buildings, however, there will not be anything to pass if crossing the James Street swing bridge, or coming off Highway 61.
“Coming out here for gas, or cigarettes, or if you’re coming out to the arena or bingo hall, please put your mask on when you get out of your vehicle. That’s the very clear message,” notes Collins.
The Fort William First Nation Chief adds the other two accesses to the main part will be closed. “We have three accesses into the main part of the village here. Two will be shut off, and there will be just one entry point.”
The Fort William First Nation Chief anticipates this could go for about a month, as the Thunder Bay district goes to code yellow on the province’s colour coding system Monday.
