Find alternate ways to celebrate Halloween if you’re in the provincial hot spots.
That’s the message from Premier Doug Ford and the Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams.
“Given the high transmission of COVID-19 in the modified Stage 2 public health unit regions of Ottawa, Peel, Toronto and York Region, traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating isn’t recommended and people should consider alternative ways to celebrate,” indicates Dr. Williams in a statement.
The province reporting 704 new COVID-19 cases.
In Northwestern Ontario there are safeguards to practice:
- Only go out with members of your household
- Only trick-or-treat outside
- Both trick-or-treaters and people handing out candy should wear a face covering (NOTE: Costume mask isn’t a substitute for a face covering and shouldn’t be worn over a face covering)
- Don’t congregate or linger at doorsteps
- Line up two metres apart if waiting
- Avoid high-touch surfaces and objects
- Whether collecting or handing out treats, wash your hands often and thoroughly or use hand sanitizer
- Don’t leave treats in a bucket or bowl for children to grab
- Consider using tongs or other similar tools to hand out treats
