Western Smoke Drifts To Thunder Bay

Be prepared to smell a bit of smoke today from forest fires in the western United States.

Trudy Kidd is with Environment Canada, and tells us the smoke is here, sitting high in the atmosphere now, but it could settle as the day wears on. “There’s a possibility you could smell the smoke, but in terms of air quality, it looks like Thunder Bay is going to experience a low risk day, so pretty clean air.”

Forest fires in Oregon, as well as bad air from Washington and Montana, could affect Thunder Bay.

Kidd adds we could see some of the smoke as it settles.

“I think we could probably see that this morning, then it’ll clear up this afternoon when a high pressure system builds in from the prairies today,” says the meteorologist.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
