Funding concerns are prompting Public School trustees to fire off a letter to the education minister.
Lakehead Board Chair Ellen Chambers wants Stephen Lecce to know the money they are working with now just is not enough to meet the demands of the province.
“It’s not a bad request. We don’t want to have to close our schools down if there’s a second wave. We want to make sure we get it right the first time and we’ve done our best but it would have helped if we had more money to do it with,” explains Chambers.
She adds everybody’s been working at break-neck speed during the pandemic.
The board chair notes “Our administration and staff haven’t taken a holiday, they’ve worked all summer. I know teachers have worked all summer trying to figure out how they are going to make sure they are ready for the school year.”
The Lakehead board is joining other boards in making the request to the Ford government.
