Er…Happy Birthday?

Remember back at the beginning of Covid-19, we were all being told to use songs to wash our hands to so that we washed long enough? Happy Birthday was one of the big ones that we were all told to use. Simple, easy, we all knew the words and it was the right length. Perfect, right? Well…maybe not so much. Scientists at Sweden’s Lund University have discoverd a problem with singing, when we sing, particularly songs with lots of consenants, we tend to expectorate more….you know, spit. Songs with lots of ‘B’ and ‘P’ words in particular seem to send the most particles out into the air. So, essentially, washing your hands and singing could really just be resulting in you spitting on your hands! It seems that while talking precautions have been taking into account, no one really thought about singing precautions. You can check out the full article here.

Happy Birthday is still the perfect length for washing your hands but, maybe just sing it in your head…
