MP Touts Controversial Vaccine Trials

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Marcus Powlowski is advocating controversial challenge trials for a COVID-19 vaccine.

Powlowski explains about 40 people would deliberately be exposed to the virus with some receiving an unproven vaccine.

Several MPs, including Powlowski along with some physicians, are supporting the challenge trials to speed up the process of developing a vaccine.

“An important part of this is we are only advocating doing this, at least initially, in the age group 18-25. In that age group the disease is about as dangerous as common influenza,” claims Powlowski.

While many consider the move unethical the Liberal MP insists “It’s unethical not to do them if it means speeding up developing a vaccine because every day that goes by thousands of people die internationally from the disease.”
