O’Toole Earned The Leadership: Parks

A local Conservative is pleased the grassroots have spoken in choosing their new federal leader.

Derek Parks was a riding captain for Peter MacKay’s campaign, but tells us they will rally around Erin O’Toole who he says did a great job in earning the leadership. “Erin O’Toole had a great ground game across the country, and made major in-roads into Quebec. And I think his appeal to all Conservatives was well deserved.”

The local Conservative adds the party will work at presenting a clear alternative to the current government, and to do that they must now start focusing on policy that appeals to voters.

“That’s for the grassroots to decide. I’m sure it’ll be major economic focus, being a post COVID-19 environment,” says Parks.

He also believes the new leader can get MPs elected in this area. The recent campaign showed the party understands the issues of rural Canada, but also Thunder Bay and northwestern Ontario.

“We have a great sitting MP to the west of here in Kenora, and I think the shell can be cracked here. It’s going to have to be a well developed plan,” adds the local Conservative.

He says the party must pull together and ensure northern Ontario sees the party vision.
