Councillor Wants To Delay Turf Facility Tender

At least one city councillor wants to again press the pause button on an indoor turf facility.

Mark Bentz plans to introduce a motion on Monday which would postpone issuing a tender for a shorter period than what administration had originally asked for.

Councillors decided against waiting for a report from their staff on the city’s financial position and confirmation of funding sources, which could have come back to Council as late as November 2021.

“I’m probably going to be proposing that we change the timeline of the referral that originally came from administration because I think it scared off a lot of councillors, they thought it would probably spell the demise of the project,” according to Bentz.

On Monday councillors are scheduled to vote on ratifying last week’s vote to go ahead with issuing the tender for the $33 million project.

It will provide a space for indoor soccer and other sports.
