The Marina Park pedestrian overpass on Water Street is now completely dismantled.
City of Thunder Bay Project Engineer Mike Vogrig explains the final portion came down without a hitch early Thursday afternoon and will now undergo repairs.
Both sides of the structure will get encased in plastic and the steel will then be sandblasted. All the steel will be tested by experts who will determine which parts of the structure are weak and those will be repaired.
After that, the structure will then be repainted and put back in place.
The city official tells us the $1.3 million project should be completed in eight to ten weeks.
Other than a slight colour change Vogrig says the overpass will look the same as it did before the repairs began adding, “We’re not making any massive changes to it.”
Last week the first section of the overpass was also removed.
