Groups To Request Mask Funding

Vulnerable people could get help accessing masks, now that they’re required in more places.

Alexandra Calderon is the Executive Director of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, and will ask City Council for some money tonight to help get masks to people in need.

City Council recently passed a resolution that would give $10,000 to community groups for this type of work.

She’s speaking on behalf of her organization along with the United Way and the District Health Unit, who she says are “working tirelessly” to make sure people living in poverty can get masks.

“If they don’t have a mask, they might not be able to enter a grocery store, or take advantage of other services and goods that are located indoors, because they are unable to purchase one,” Calderon points out.

She adds vulnerable people could fall through the cracks if they are shut out of those services.

Calderon wasn’t able to specify how much money they are asking for ahead of the meeting, because the groups were still calculating how many people they could expect to help.
