There’s been some success in a newly created grief program for Indigenous people.
Hospice Northwest’s Kimberly Ramsbottom says many have felt this program has been needed for some time.
“We delivered our first program yesterday out on Fort William First Nation. The participants’ comments were ‘this is so needed’ and ‘this is so timely’,” says Ramsbottom.
The program was funded through an almost $75,000 dollar grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Over the past eight months, Hospice Northwest has used funding from its Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to convene an Advisory Committee, conduct research, focus groups and interviews.
Ramsbottom tells us they are going to apply for further funding to expand the program.
