City Offers Rent Relief For Commercial Tenants

The City of Thunder Bay is giving its commercial tenants a break during the pandemic.

Realty Services Manager Joel DePeuter tells us they will be getting rent relief.

He say the city will waive 25 per cent of their rent, the tenant would pay 25 per cent and the rest would be spread out over a period of time.

Those tenants operate out of city owned buildings like Victoriaville Centre, the Whelan Building and the Heart of the Harbour parkade.

“It’s being done because obviously the pandemic has been hard on a lot of businesses and not all businesses equally,” explains DePeuter.

He says those tenants could not apply for federal government help because their landlord was the city and municipalities are not allowed to get COVID-19 financial help.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
