Woman Charged Defrauding Family Member

A disturbing and sad case of fraud between family members has been reported by Thunder Bay police.

They tell us an investigation began last month when a concerned citizen told police about suspicious banking activity related to an 82-year old woman.

A Crimes Against Seniors investigator found suspicious transactions of more than $82,000 happened over a five month period, and the 82-year old was also defrauded nearly $20,000 by other means.

Police say a 56-year old Calgary woman turned herself into police on June 11th, charged with fraud as well as Theft by Person Holding Power of Attorney. She has a court appearance August 28th.

Police add June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and you can see the website by clicking here.

And, the lights at Thunder Bay city hall will shine purple in recognition.
