Some positive news from the Thunder Bay Hospital.
Dr. Stewart Kennedy tells us so far they haven’t had any positive COVID-19 tests in relation to a doctor who had the virus.
“So we are really in good shape, and it is what we expected, that it was low risk,” Kennedy stressed.
Kennedy says all 26 patients who had contact with the physician have tested negative and will be tested again at 14 days from the date of possible exposure.
In his COVID-19 situation report he goes on to discuss an additional eight patients who were tested out of precaution, and all tests have been returned negative.
There is approximately 140 staff who had contact with the doctor and were also tested. The hospital’s COVID-19 lead says that so far about 95% of the tests have been returned, and all are negative.
Hospital officials say that they are also conducting surveillance testing of non-contact, asymptomatic staff. To date, 988 staff were swabbed, with additional swabbing taking place. As of this morning, 286 tests were returned, all with negative results.
Kennedy says non-essential surgeries are expected to resume on Tuesday, June 9th and doctors will be reaching out to their patients to confirm.
