More Tragedy Off Canada’s East Coast

Just as we think Canada’s east coast can’t handle another tragedy, a fishing trip off the coast of Newfoundland has left at least three people dead.

Four men left the village of St. Lawrence off the Burin Penninsula to fish for crab, after midnight on Sunday, and never returned. Three bodies – reportedly a father, son, and nephew – have been recovered, while search crews are resuming their efforts to find a fourth man.

Premier Dwight Ball said that the province’s thoughts are with the families and friends of those impacted by the tragic loss. Newfoundland and Labrador Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote issued a message of comfort to the families affected, and hope for the fourth missing fisherman’s safe return.

Foote also thanked the Canadian Coast Guard and other crews involved in the search.
