Students Start Picking Up Belongings Monday

The Lakehead Public School Board is working with the Thunder Bay Health Unit to figure out a way for students and their families to access their belongings left behind in schools pre-pandemic.

The new plan is going to observe all public health guidelines with respect to limiting the spread of COVID 19 while students safely collect their belongings.

Public school board officials say schools will communicate the process and pick up dates to families.

Superintendent of Education, AJ Keene suspects there are plenty of items that were left behind in the lead up to the March break.

“I know my own children have a couple of hoodies and a pair of shoes that need to be picked up. We also want to get in because we know there is food that has been left in lockers and from a health and safety perspective we want to get those cleaned up as soon as possible,” Keene said.

Keene says it could take a couple of weeks before everyone has their personal belongings back since they are spacing out trips to schools to allow for physical distancing.

All in-classroom learning is on hold during the pandemic with students expected to return to class in the fall.
