Family Escapes South Side Fire

A working smoke alarm is getting the credit from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in alerting residents of a fire in the south end.

They say it was around 1 o’clock this morning when they were called to the North Syndicate area, to find fire coming from the rear of the two story building.

Fire fighters say as they attacked the fire, a search of the building revealed a couple and their young child escaped thanks to the fire alarm, while another individual was taken to hospital.

Exterior damage to the rear of the building is quite extensive with no cause determined yet.

Fire fighters add the family dog was also saved.
