Did you know about this? Apparently video games are now holding concerts! In fact, American Rap artist Travis Scott is actually ‘touring’ inside the game Fortnite! I had no idea about this, I’m admittedly not a big gamer and neither are my kids. Actually, my kids are VERY anti-Fortnite and I’m okay with that but they do LOVE Minecraft. Well, this Saturday there is actually a music festival happening inside Minecraft! Not that there are any artists my kids know (or that we are playing on The Bay) but it’s a pretty neat concept. Each artist gets a 20 minute set, all previously recorded and uploaded to the server, and there will be an area within Minecraft where participants can order artist merch as well as a shirt that has been specifically created for ‘Block By Blockwest’ also known as BXBW (a nod to the South By Southwest and North By Northwest festivals). All proceeds are being donated to help people effected by the COVID-19 pandemic!
“Due to the mass cancellation of tours, ‘Block By Blockwest: A Minecraft Music Festival’ aims to provide an online festival experience for the artists that were forced to cancel their tours and fans who missed out on the chance to hear their favorite artists live,” is what the website for BXBW says.
Seems like a great idea to me, and the fact that it’s happening inside Minecraft means it’s likely that millions of people will have the chance to see these artists! I’m going to try and get the kids on board to watch, even though it’s all punk music this weekend. I think that if they get the support they are hoping for, we could see a lot more artists performing inside video games like this as well. I’ve always thought that ZZ Top would make amazing video game characters!
