Dam Project To Proceed During Pandemic

The City of Thunder Bay’s project engineer is pleased the Boulevard Lake dam improvements are considered essential during the COVID-19 crisis.

Mike Vogrig believes it is an important project which needs to proceed since the repairs have been necessary for quite a while.

“There are some significant structural deficiencies with the dam…some of the concrete there is over a hundred years old and is in need of repair,” according to Vogrig.

He adds, “One of the big aspects of the project is we have to put a new set of steel anchors through the dam in order to ensure that it’s stable.”

Work on the dam repairs is expected to start next month and continue into next year.

The $7.3 million project is being handled by Concrete Walls Limited of Thunder Bay.
