Thunder Bay’s Regional Health Sciences Centre isn’t surprised we’ve seen an additional five confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Dr. Stewart Kennedy says none of those cases were admitted to the hospital because of the illness, but some did visit the ER to be seen for their symptoms.
“Precautions have taken place and we expect more. Public health has done an outstanding job tracking down anyone who came in contact with these news cases, they are searching for them and telling them to self-isolate,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy says so far they have one person who has been hospitalized from the illness.
“We only have one in hospital at this point in time and that one is getting ready for discharge and is making a good recovery. But we do have a number in ICU that are highly presumptive cases and they are a concern but we have not got the confirmation of their tests yet,” Kennedy said.
The hospital is in the process of making more room in case they see a surge of COVID-19 patients.
